David Ireland's ULSTER AMERICAN, Theatro Athinon, 2025 - 26.

David Ireland’s Ulster American is a razor-sharp black comedy that dismantles the pretensions of the modern cultural elite through a high-stakes collision of ego and identity. Set during a single evening of pre-rehearsal drinks (for this production, situated on the theater stage) the play follows a self-important and Academy Award winner American actor, a spineless English director, and a fierce Northern Irish playwright as their attempt to collaborate devolves into a brutal power struggle over cultural ownership and political correctness. By exposing the chasm between performative progressivism and deep-seated prejudice, Ireland creates a claustrophobic pressure cooker where communication fails spectacularly, forcing the audience to confront the uncomfortable,
often violent absurdities of the "post-truth" era.
