DON JUAN - THE STRUGGLE TO BE A MAN, Veaki Theater, Athens, 2024-25.
From Molière to Lord Byron, Don Juan symbolizes the rejection of traditional values and the pursuit of personal freedom. In this, revised, version of the myth, Don Juan is a narcissistic leader who offers simplistic answers to complex questions. In the midst of intense culture conflicts and ideological confusion, he thrives on doctrines that serve his own ambitions and desires. Don Juan discovers his true talent in a dive bar, where he charms the disoriented patrons to forms a New Age cult. As the bar transforms into a “Church of Freedom”, his followers grow increasingly devoted and the boundaries between faith and abuse, blur. The performance raises questions on the issues of gender politics, political corectness, polarization, deception and the construct of illusions.
